Employee Spotlight - December 2018

Kristin McAlpine

Senior Project Manager | Augusta, ME

Kristin started at GDS in January 2010 as a Project Engineer where she worked in the Southern Maine region as a Field Staff implementing the Efficiency Maine Business Incentive Program. Prior to joining GDS, she worked in research and development for 7 years with Sappi Fine Paper focusing on developing new paper grades with new coating formulas or calendaring techniques. Kristin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine.

Working for the Efficiency Maine Commercial and Industrial Incentive program has accounted for full-time hours for almost 9 years. As the Program Delivery Manager, she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Prescriptive Incentive Program, Small Business Initiative, and Distributor Discount Initiatives for commercial and industrial customers for electric, natural gas, propane and oil measures.

What has working at GDS taught you?

GDS has taught me that if you show ambition and work hard, you get rewarded. They are a company that truly cares about the employees and their development. They are evolving and acknowledging changing working environments and working with subcommittees to make improvements. This is an important aspect that is lacking with larger corporations.

What are your interests in your field of work?

I remain interested in delivering results to the Efficiency Maine client. Whether it is launching new programs or ensuring that savings goals are met, I know that it is making a difference to Maine customers.

What do you enjoy doing on your day off?

Most of my time away from work is spent traveling with my boys to one of their sporting events. However, if I am home, there is always music playing with the genre dependent on my mood or task.

Favorite places to travel?

As a family, we spend a lot of time in Grand Lake Stream. It is a small, remote location in Eastern Maine and is a wonderful place to take a break from reality. With no television, internet, and little cell reception. We spend time swimming, four-wheeling, and just enjoying time as a family surrounded by breathtaking views.

Any favorite Movies, books, T.V. shows?

I enjoy all crime shows, especially Criminal Minds and Forensic Files. I find the science behind forensics fascinating and would have loved to study forensics with a focus on ballistics. My husband and I loved Sons of Anarchy, and after a week in the hospital with our second son binge watching SOA, we decided to name him Jax. I also love the Harry Potter series and could read the books and watch the movies over and over.

Do you participate in any extra-curricular activities?

I love to spend my free time at my CrossFit gym (we are not all hulks, we are ninjas too). It reminds me of GDS, a tight-knit community where we are all friends and support each other.

Tell us a little about your Family & friends

I married my high-school sweetheart, Kristofor, and we have 2 very active boys, Ryan (9) and Jaxson (6). They both love all things sports and they are often doing one or more sports almost every night of the week.
