Making a Western Regional Day-Ahead Market Work

GDS PERSPECTIVES ON THE

CAISO EDAM STRAW PROPOSAL

OUR APPROACH: GDS leveraged its expertise to identify strengths and weaknesses of the EDAM straw proposal and propose possible solutions consistent with a principled market design approach.EIM-map-horizontal

The CAISO’s Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM) initiative seeks to increase regional collaboration by enabling entities in the Western EIM to also utilize the CAISO’s day-ahead market. The CAISO published a straw proposal on April 28 that reflects the stakeholder discussions from workshops held in Q1 of this year. The current straw proposal does not provide a complete market design and there is still time for stakeholders to influence the final design.

GDS will share its insight with clients to enable them to better shape the final EDAM design. GDS is offering to provide clients our perspectives in an hour presentation and discussion of the EDAM straw proposal for a flat fee. The discussion will enable clients to better understand the elements of a principled and comprehensive EDAM design.
